The Build
This vehicle started out as just a basic 1st generation Chevy Blazer. It spent most of its life out in Colorado, which is why this vehicle is so clean and features no rust. This also made it a great candidate for a build like this. Our whole goal with this build was to not only enhance the looks of this vehicle but also increase its drivability in terms of a more consistent and reliable drivetrain as well as a more capable suspension giving the driver a more comfortable and controlled ride, while retaining much of its classic DNA. Instead of replacing its 350 with an LS motor, we decided to add a fuel injection system instead along with a few other add-ons laid out below.
Engine Upgrades
This Blazer came fitted with a 350ci V8 engine. We wanted to not only clean it up, but we were also looking to give it a bit more performance and consistency with it. Below is a list of all the modifications we made to it…
- FiTech Fuel Injection System - To give this vehicle a bit more modern performance without changing out the engine completely, we opted to convert the original carburetor fuel system to a more modern fuel injection from FiTech. This gives this vehicle a bit more reliability and performance, so you can simply turn the key and go.
- Hooker Headers - To also aid in providing more performance and a bit better sound, we also elected to install a set of Hooker headers.
- Flowmaster Exhaust - To pair with the headers from Hooker, we also incorporated an exhaust system from Flowmaster.
- March Pulley System - We also decided to add in a serpentine pulley system from March Pulleys to get a bit more performance out of the engine as well as give it a nice piece of jewelry on the front of the engine.
- 3-Core Aluminum Radiator w/ Dual Fans - To give this engine the cooling it needed, we upgraded the radiator to a 3-core aluminum radiator that incorporates dual fans.
- Engine Repaint - To reflect the upgrading and freshening up of the engine, we also decided to paint it up and getting it looking like new again
- Engine Bay & Radius Support Repaint - To supplement the painting of the engine, we also painted the engine bay and radius support
- Brake Booster & Master Cylinder - Not necessarily part of the engine, but due to the added power of the modified engine and the condition of the brake booster and master cylinder, we decided to replace those as well.
- In general, the modifications to the engine helped to not only make the engine platforms better but made it look better as well, which is what this Blazer needed as it properly reflects the vehicle's clean exterior and underneath.

Before & After
Suspension
Bilstein Shocks & Stabilizers
- To help give this Blazer a better ride we decided it would be a good idea to upgrade from the stock Rancho shocks
- We ultimately decided to go with the Bilstein 5160 shocks that feature a remote reservoir
- The remote reservoir on these shocks allow for the shock to hold more oil giving you more dampening capabilites leading to a better ride
- We then decided to pair these upgrades with a dual steering stabilizer setup also featuring Bilstein dampeners
- If you are looking to upgrade the ride on any vehicle, whether old or new, upgrading your shocks and stabilizers is one of the best ways to do accomplish that
Mickey Thompson Wheels & Tires
- Originally this vehicle had 33" mud tires that were old and did not ride well
- We ultimately decided to go with a set of 35" tires as we though this would fit the vehicle much better as it is lifted
- We decided to go with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/T, as we do on many of our classic trucks, as we love the tread pattern on this vehicle, they ride well for a mud-terrain, and their tie to American racing heritage makes these tires a perfect choice for this Blazer.
- The wheel we went with is also from Mickey Thompson called the classic III, and it is a 16"x10" wheel
- This setup gives you a good tire size, enough side wall, a good ride, and an overall classic look
Lights, Trim, Interior
- Other upgrades to this truck include full LED lighting including Holley Retrobright LED headlights as well as sequential LED blinkers, and LED sidemarker lights
- We also replaced the interior trim panels on the inside as well as replaced the carpeting on the floors
- To help aid in the plain appearance to the outside, we decided to incorporate some moldings and other trim pieces to give this Blazer a bit more classier look
- We also incorporated a new grille to replace the old plain and ugly one it had originally
- Overall we wanted to give this vehicle a bit more detail that retain its classic look but give it a modern touch at the same time
